1. Treat materials as hazardous and of unknown toxicity

Research materials should be handled only by trained laboratory personnel and treated as potentially hazardous substances whose full biological and toxicological properties are not established. Assume that a material may be harmful if inhaled, ingested, or brought into contact with skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.

2. General handling practice

Follow good laboratory practice and your own institution's safety protocols at all times. As general guidance, work in an appropriately ventilated area, wear suitable personal protective equipment (such as gloves, eye protection, and a lab coat), avoid generating dust or aerosols, and do not eat, drink, or store food where materials are handled. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

3. Storage and disposal

Store lyophilized material frozen and desiccated, protected from light and moisture, unless your protocol specifies otherwise. Keep materials sealed, clearly labeled, and out of the reach of children and untrained persons. Dispose of materials, solutions, and contaminated consumables as hazardous laboratory waste in accordance with applicable regulations and your institution's waste procedures.

4. Exposure and first response

In the event of accidental exposure, follow your institution's emergency and first-aid procedures, remove the source of exposure where it is safe to do so, and seek medical attention. For any medical emergency, contact your local emergency services or poison control center. 5. Requesting safety information

You can request the safety information we have available for a specific material — including a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) where one is available — through our contact form. Please include the compound and, where applicable, the lot number. Where an SDS or specific safety data is not available for a research material, handle it under the precautionary assumptions described above.
